19 [Accidental Video]

[The video cuts on in the middle of Rachel brushing out her hair, watching herself in her mirror. There's a large macaw in the corner, which is the only sign of the event being in her room.

She doesn't seem focused on the PCD -- or the parrot -- but instead on her image in the mirror. Rachel sighs -- the humidity is causing her hair to be curlier and poofier than it normally is and the amount of moisture certainly isn't doing anything for her skin. A tug or two through and the brush makes it through her hair, but the girl looks less than satisfied.

Until Rachel cocks her head to the left and curls her fingers around the handle of her brush and begins to sing to herself, softly, at first, but the more she sings, the louder and more passionate it becomes:]

My mama told me when I was young, we're all born superstars. She rolled my hair and put my lipstick on, in the glass of her boudoir --

[A neat spin and Rachel is full out singing into her mirror -- and seems to be doing a dance, along with her song -- and it appears perfectly choreographed.]

There's nothin' wrong with lovin' who you are, she said, 'cause he made you perfect, babe, -- so hold your head up, girl, and you'll go far -- listen to me when I say -- !

[The brush is long since forgotten on the dresser, by this point, as she continues her dance.]

I'm beautiful in my way, 'cause God makes no mistakes, I'm on the right track, baby, I was born this way -- don't hide yourself in regret, just love yourself and you're set, I'm on the right track, baby, I was born this way --

[The PCD times out soon after -- the network has apparently had enough diva for the time being.]

I wasn't intending on giving a performance.

[Not that it matters, but Rachel feels the need to point it out anyway.]

But you have - so better make it a full one.

The rest of the song needs to be rearranged in order to sound decent while sung a capella.

[Which she's doing right at this very moment with Kurt, but Jesse hardly needs to know that.]

But I do insist on professionalism, so if you would like to hear me sing a full performance, you'll have to select another song.

I get the right of requests? [So smug]

[A roll of her eyes.]

Asking me to sing is hardly a right. I will sing regardless.

[But it kind of is a right, because Rachel hardly performs at the drop of a hat for anyone, so shut up, St James.]

Unexpected Song from Song and Dance.

I know what musical it's from.

[With only the slightest huff as she tilts her head to remember the lyrics, the pitch, the music.]

I should have known you do, it is Bernadette Peters and Andrew Lloyd Weber.

Of course.

[She taps a finger on the dresser for a moment or two before she sings. As always, it's flawless, though near the tail-end of the performance she's beginning to wonder why, exactly, Jesse selected this song out of the thousands upon thousands of others Rachel has memorized to perform at a moment's notice.]

[Really, Rachel, you know his reasons - he looks very impressed though -]

[She isn't considering those reasons because no, okay. 8|]

There is a woeful lack of Broadway in this place. I found several old records that I apparently collected during my stay here, but I haven't heard that particular song in quite some time.

[Quite some time being... a couple of weeks.]

Song and Dance is one of the most unappreciated musicals out there - for shame, I know but the point stands.

It is sorely under-appreciated.

It's positively criminal -- but I haven't begun a full exploration of the mall since my re-arrival, so I think I might check once the jungles leave.

The crowds prefer grander things such as Phantom - personally I can't see why they can't take both.

Well, Phantom is a masterpiece.

[She pauses before ducking out of sight. When she returns, Rachel has a journal in her hand and she's flipping through pages.]

-- yes, I've visited it before, and I found a record of the original Broadway production of Hair.

[Genuine surprise]

Obviously I haven't been giving this place enough credit.

You can find anything if you explore, I suppose. I found an old record player that the people I live with fixed for me.

I suppose I'll have to do just that once the mess calms down.
